Like the Steer's Head, the Elephant Head flower is one of my very favorite wildflowers found in the intermountain west. It grows in moist places, such as boggy meadows and along streams and rivers. Each plant has a spike of flowers, and each tiny flower looks like an elephants head -- complete with two ears and a trunk. The leaves at the base of the flower, are like delicate fern fronds. Each spike of flowers grow to be about a foot in height. |
