Elephant Head Flower

Like the Steer's Head, the Elephant Head flower is one of my very favorite wildflowers found in the intermountain west.  It grows in moist places, such as boggy meadows and along streams and rivers.  Each plant has a spike of flowers, and each tiny flower looks like an elephants head -- complete with two ears and a trunk.  The leaves at the base of the flower, are like delicate fern fronds.  Each spike of flowers grow to be about a foot in height.

Defying Gravity

I often feel that when I'm out exploring new places for photographs, that I'm on this big treasure hunt!  I love to go to out of the way places, with no trails.  You see alot of beautiful photographs of the same popular scenes, but I want to find the treasure that not many have the opportunity to see.  This balancing act displayed by Mother Nature, is one of those treasures that I just happened upon, while exploring in a remote area of Southern Utah.

Virga

Virga is a form of precipitation that evaporates before it hits the ground.  Low humidity and high temperatures can cause rain to evaporate completely, shortly after its release from a cloud.  Desert areas often have clouds showing virga. I took this panarama showing virga in the high desert near Bryce Canyon, in southern Utah.

Baby Duckling

This lost duckling found it's way to our home.  My cute, 11 year old son took on the job of taking care of it.  He named it Winchester.

One of Winchester's morning dips in our pond.  The orange color in the water is one of our big gold fish.  They seem to be very curious about the new little guy.   They swim up and nibble at his feet while he swims around, maybe thinking that he's something good to eat!

Tye

Along with outdoor photography, I love to create fine art photos as well.  My problem was not having a studio to work out of.  Not a problem any more!  My sweet husband helped me put one together, and I went to work.  Thanks to Tye for being my first model.  Can't wait to create more!
