Layers and Texture

Experimenting with layers and textures.  Sometimes you get something really cool, by just messing around in photoshop.  I really liked the way this image turned out.  Now, if I can just remember how to do it again!

Another Beautiful Sunset in Red Canyon Utah

I was hoping for a few clouds in the sky, but I kind of liked the contrast that the deep blue sky had against the red rock.

Sunset in Red Canyon Utah

The last minutes of sunlight cast a warm glow on the beautiful landscape.  This is my favorite time to photograph.  The fun part is trying to be in the right place at the right time.

The same photo worked nice as an infared landscape.  I liked them both equally as well, so I thought that I would share them both.

Bristlecone Pine

When I took the photograph of this old Bristlecone Pine, one of my favorite poems came to mind.

Good Timber

The tree that never had to fight
For sun and sky and air and light,
That stood out in the open plain
And always got its share of rain…
Never became a forest King.
But lived and died a scrubby thing.

The man who never had to toil,
In facing challenge did recoil,
Who never had to win his share
Of sun and sky and light and air…
Never became a manly man,
But lived and died as he began.

Good Timber does not grow with ease.
The stronger wind, the stronger trees.
The farther sky the greater length,
The more the storm, the more the strength.
By sun and cold, by rain and snows,
In tree or man, good timber grows.

Where thickest stands the forest growth
We find the patriarchs of  both…
And they hold the converse with the stars
Whose broken branches show the scars
Of many winds and much strife…
This is the common law of life.

New Location

Found a new location that I thought would be fun for senior photos.  Jaydyn is always willing to model for a test shoot.  I am so lucky!  We have a lot of fun, and always get some great photos!

Late Autumn Reflections

With the big winter storm forcasted, I decided to spend one last day in the mountains before snow covered the last colors of autumn.  What a beautiful day!  I didn't see another person all day, and enjoyed the warm sun that will all to soon be gone.  When I photographed this particular place, I thought that there might be too much going on, with the reflections and everything.  Instead, they ended up being some of my favorite photos of the day!

Frosty Close Ups

Early morning frost crystals on a carpet of fallen leaves.

Willow Leaves

One might think that after the color of autumn leaves peak, and they have all fallen to the ground, there isn't much to photograph. I find this a great time to get out and look for the beauty in the little details.

Surreal Autumn

I love the soft light, the beautiful colors, the warmth of the sun in the cool air, and the peaceful feeling of Autumn.  It is my favorite season!  Hopefully, I'll be able to enjoy a few more days like this, before the snow blows in!

Autumn Scenes

Fall colors in Logan Canyon
Shadows and the soft light of autumn through the pines

The leaves had just started to change.
I will have to revisit when they are in full color!

A light rain shower had just passed, and the sky had some interesting cloud patterns as the storm moved on.

I liked the rain and sunlight on the distant mountain in this one.

I used the Orton effect on this one.  It gives it a dreamy, almost painted look.  Something a little different is always fun to try!

Threat of Rain

This beautiful cloud display only lasted a moment.  I love it when you are lucky enough to be at the right place, at the right time!

Elephant Head Flower

Like the Steer's Head, the Elephant Head flower is one of my very favorite wildflowers found in the intermountain west.  It grows in moist places, such as boggy meadows and along streams and rivers.  Each plant has a spike of flowers, and each tiny flower looks like an elephants head -- complete with two ears and a trunk.  The leaves at the base of the flower, are like delicate fern fronds.  Each spike of flowers grow to be about a foot in height.

I love the wide open spaces, and beautiful skies of Wyoming!

Defying Gravity

I often feel that when I'm out exploring new places for photographs, that I'm on this big treasure hunt!  I love to go to out of the way places, with no trails.  You see alot of beautiful photographs of the same popular scenes, but I want to find the treasure that not many have the opportunity to see.  This balancing act displayed by Mother Nature, is one of those treasures that I just happened upon, while exploring in a remote area of Southern Utah.
