Hosta Leaf

I took some close-ups of the Hostas in my garden today.  I love the spirals that the leaves make as they push their way up in the spring.  I added a soft Orton effect to this one, and really liked how it turned out.  It ended up being more of an abstract, but it's  always fun to be creative and try new things!

Southern Utah Slot Canyon

This is just one of the many Slot Canyons that can be found in Southern Utah.  These are narrow canyons formed by the wear of water rushing through the rock.  I love exploring and photographing them.  It's exciting to see what beauty awaits you around every bend!

Desert Bighorn Sheep

I was excited to be able to get a few photographs of this young Desert Bighorn.  It blends in very well with the surroundings, so I was happy for some spring green vegetation and the bright purple wild flowers to add a little color.

Snow Storm in Zions National Park

I was lucky enough to be in Zions when this snow storm moved in.  Even though the snow is beautiful against the red rock, I liked the mood of the black and white better.

Kanab Utah

I drove up a dirt road and found this cave.  Because of the water, I couldn't go any farther, but I was curious to see how far back it went.  I decided to use the flash of my camera to light it up so I could see back into the cave.  When I looked back at my photograph, I was surprised to see the beautiful colors and texture in the wall of the cave.  Along with the reflections in the water, I thought it made for a great photo!  I think that it almost has the look of a painting more than a photograph.

This was the rock wall on the outside of the cave, looking up.
After a few setting adjustments, and my tripod, I was able to get several good, clear shots.

Each rock wall is unique in color and texture.
I thought I'd add a fun one!  This was looking out from the inside of the cave.

Coral Pink Sand Dunes in Kanab Utah

The sand dunes at sunset.  I love the soft light of the evening!
The strong winds made for interesting and beautiful clouds.  This one almost looks like an erupting volcano
Evening shadows from the ripples in the sand

The constant blowing sand had sandblasted rocks into odd and shiny smooth shapes.  I found this pretty little plant to add to a close-up of the sand and rocks.  Any one that knows me, knows how I love the little details!

The wood in these old fallen trees were polished smooth also.  It really brought out the unique colors and patterns in each one.

This photograph was taken after the sun had set.  It's funny how the color of the sand changed with the light.  They really do look pink!  Maybe that's how they got the name?

I wanted to get a close shot of the blowing sand.  What I really got, was a face full of blowing sand!  I decided to post it anyway to somehow make it all worth while.

Such beautiful smooth sand!  Not a track anywhere but the occasional lizard or bird ( and my own of course )

The last few moments of light from the setting sun.

Ripples in the sand

Dried vegetation from last season seemed to fit perfectly in the dry blowing sand of the desert
The evening light brings out the warm colors and beautiful shadows.  I think it's the most peaceful time of the day, if only it would last just a little bit longer!
